Tim Pickman's project - 'The Morris'
I am
a gap year student, finished my A levels at Bootham School in York. I live
near York and I will be studying engineering at Lancaster University in
October. I am hoping they let me take the car with me!! The car is known
around the house as "The Morris".
It is a 1969 deluxe model, Morris Minor 1000 saloon 4
door, Old English white. My parents bought it for me and my brother as a
Christmas present in 2004 (ironically from a nurse!) for £1,000 for us to
learn about cars. Polishing hub caps and mirrors and the odd service was
what they had in mind. 3 years later and the midget 1275 supercharged engine
is nearly ready to go back under the bonnet.
The block is a 1275 midget item, with A+ pistons and crank. Crank has been
hardened and centre main bearing cap fitted. The head is a ported metro
turbo item, with 36mm inlets and 31 exhaust. Exhaust is Maniflow LCB
manifold with performance silencers. The carb is metro turbo, but with the
throttle plate removed. The supercharger is an Eaton M45 from the BMW mini.
The inlet and outlet manifolds both had to be custom made, as did the
mounting brackets. A 60mm throttle body is mounted on the inlet of the
supercharger, with a large K&N air filter. The intercooler is from a Renault
GT5 turbo. The setup of the aluminium radiator with electric fan needs to be
finalized, as does the clutch. The gearbox is 1275 midget, to be replaced
with Ford type 9 when I have the money!
Inside there is a new instrument panel where the drivers glove box usually
is and a CD radio under the parcel tray.
Set of wolfrace 13" will hopefully go on aswell, but the courier "is not
sure where they are"!!!
